ECE Onboarding Resources

Welcome! Our goal is to support programs in accessing valid and reliable training organizations in MiRegistry, to better ensure that new staff have the beginning knowledge they need to support children and families. We are dedicated to helping licensed child care programs create a comprehensive onboarding system that includes recommended foundational training topics for new staff.

MiRegistry

MiRegistry is a great first step! Some staff will already have created a MiRegistry account, but new-to-the-field staff may need to create a MiRegistry account and apply for membership. MiRegistry is Michigan's official professional development registry and central tracking system for the early childhood, school-age care, and education workforce. Child Care Licensing rules require staff to have an account, membership status (not expired), and be connected to the program’s Organization within 30 days of employment.

Great Start to Quality Professional Development (PD) INdicators

Finding training that meet these indicators on MiRegistry:

• Click “Search Training” on www.miregistry.org (the main landing page) 

• On the left side, under “Area of Interest”, the second training filter option, click the dropdown arrow and select “Great Start to Quality”  

• The next box under that is “Topic” – click the dropdown arrow and select your topic of interest (listed above) 

• Include any other filters or simply click the “search” button at the bottom  

• These are all trainings that align with the above Great Start to Quality topics!

Training Levels

using this search feature allows you to find training that may be more suitable for your new team member depending on their level of experience.

• Click on the “training content” filter within the search for training 

• Under “Level”, click the dropdown to access the three levels of training in MiRegistry- Developing, Achieving, and Extending.
  

• Developing level training is designed to provide the participant with:

  • A basic understanding of concepts and opportunity for skill development

  • Resources and information about where to find resources

  • Reinforcement for behaviors and dispositions that support and foster development in children

  Achieving level training is designed to provide the participant with:

  • An opportunity to practice and refine skills

  • Build on long-term support systems

  • Put concepts and behaviors into context within their own environment

  • Opportunities to build professional networks and support

  Extending level training is designed to provide the participant with:

  • Opportunities for gaining more specialized, in-depth information

  • Motivation for a deeper understanding of issues

  • Meaningful search for insight, perspective, and realism

  • Skills for leadership, advocacy, and mentoring roles
